Craig Crews, throwing football jigs around boat docks to catch five bass at 9.58 pounds, finished a close second. Rod Sullivan took third place with five bass, weighing 8.54 pounds.
Craig Crews had the big bass of the tournament, weighing 3.48 pounds. David Smith and Larry Estavanko took the best boat award with 16.61 pounds.
In all, the 21 anglers caught 58 bass, weighing 99.39 pounds. With only three tournaments left for this year, Eric Morris is holding on to the point lead for Angler of the Year with 241 points. Greg McKibben is second with 225, followed by David Smith (218), Charlie Brown (216.5), Mike Miller (209) and Daniel Parks (206.5).
The club will hold its annual cookout on Monday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Pavilion on Longview Street in Carrollton. Retired club members are invited. The next tournament will be Oct. 6-7 at Lake Jordan in Wetumpka, Ala.
In the club’s August tournament at Lake Neely Henry in Gadsden, Ala., Mike Miller took top honors with a five-fish limit, weighing 11.10 pounds.
Miller caught his fish in the last three hours of the tournament on a 15-foot hump using chartreuse green plastic lizards. Rod Sullivan fished a deep bluff wall with a shaky head to catch 8.40 pounds for second place. Using plastic worms, Jason Holland landed 8.27 pounds for a close third place.
Mike Miller had the big bass at 4.92 pounds, while best boat award went to Jason Holland and Eric Morris with 14.22 pounds. The 22 fishermen caught a total of 56 fish, weighing 86.13 pounds.
