Mrs. Sara Barnes Hawkins, age 71, of Temple, Georgia, died Tuesday, December 25, 2012.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Griffin, Georgia, on October 5, 1941, the daughter of the late Irene Overton Powell.

She retired from the City of Carrollton where she had worked as a secretary and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, Atlanta Bonsai Society, Beta Sigma Phi, Fairbanks Series 600 Bowling Club and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Survivors include her brother, David and Latha Barnes of Eatonton, Georgia; cousin, Hulette and Loretta Johnson of Griffin, Georgia; sister-in-law, Barbara Barnes; best friend, Pat Dickson; step-daughter, Jeanne Smith and family; nieces and nephew, Sharon Barnes, Susan Wells, Rhonda Barnes, Ben Barnes and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her mother she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Edward Hawkins, and brother, Ronald “Ronnie” C. Barnes.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Rafael Carballo and Father Paul Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert Richards, Robert Barr, Robert Fazio, Joel Richards, Bob Thornton and Ronnie Nicholas.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.
