Douglas County’s softball season came to a quick end Wednesday night at the hands of the Rockdale Lady Yellow Jackets in the first round of state sectional play.

Rockdale defeated the Lady Tigers 13-3 in the first game and 10-0 in the second to sweep the series.

In game one, The Lady Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead in the first inning but Douglas County tied it in the second and took a one run lead in the top of the third.

However, Rockdale pushed four runs across the plate in the bottom of the third and seven more scored in the fourth for the mercy ruled victory.

Gabby Godfrey took the loss in the game, allowing all 13 runs, many of which were unearned. She struck out three and walked three.

The second game mirrored the first. Rockdale scored two in the second, four in the third, one in the fifth and three in the sixth for the win.

“They were a really athletic team and put a lot of pressure on us with their speed,” said DCHS Head Coach Alex Duhaime. “We left runners on base and could not get the big hit when we needed to.”

Godfrey again took the loss, throwing all six innings while striking out two and walking three.

Douglas County managed just three hits total in both games.

Courtney Hans picked up two hits while Marissa Marr had the other.

Despite the losses, Duhaime was very pleased with the way the season turned out.

“We made progress,” he said. “We came a long way from one win last year to seven this year and making the state tournament.”

“I am excited about what we will bring back next year,” Duhaime added. “The girls will get faster and stronger and we just have to keep working.”
