The event is scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, 8, 15. The cost is $2 per person, with no additional costs or parking fees.
“Years back, when Mr. Tanner was running the park, they had a Storybook Land,” said county parks Director Trudy Crunkleton. “You could walk through the archway on the trail and see nursery rhyme characters such as Jack and Jill and the Three Men in the Tub.”
Crunkleton said many of these characters have been brought back, but with added Christmas characters.
“Instead of Little Bo Peep having her sheep, she has the nine reindeer,” she said. “Instead of the Three Bears, Goldilocks has the Three Snowmen.”
One admission fee also includes hayrides and train rides around the lake, pictures with Santa (from 5:30-7:30 p.m.), hot chocolate, s’mores, campfires, stories with Mrs. Santa Claus, caroling, face painting, games and letters to Santa.
John Tanner Park is a 138-acre site operated by Carroll County, located about six miles west of Carrollton, off Highway 16. The park features a large sand swimming beach, boating, fishing and camping.
Its facilities include a group lodge, pioneer campground, 31 tent-trailer-RV sites, six motel type units, four picnic shelters and two group shelters. It has a three-quarters mile nature trail and a one-acre lake loop trail.
