Crossroads For Life Ministries, 6976 Bankhead Highway, Douglasville, only opened its doors about a month ago, but is already very active in local flood relief work.
The Crossroads parking lot was filled with tables and bags of relief items Tuesday as the church held its mass distribution of goods.
“We’re giving out cleaning items, shampoo, toothpaste and clothing and shoes for adults and children,” said Carolyn White, outreach minister. “We’ll continue to serve the community as long as needed.”
Pastor Edwin Ford said the relief items have come from local donations to Crossroads’ Lithia Springs store, plus contributed supplies from World Vision and the Wedowee, Alabama Food Bank.
Jim Ewings, manager of the World Vision Albany, Georgia office, was at the Douglasville church Tuesday as part of his organization’s disaster response team.
“We’re partnering with local community leaders to meet disaster response planning,” Ewings said. “World Vision focuses on children and families living in poverty and partners with churches and other organizations, such as Crossroads, to connect with the community,” he added.
The purpose is to develop long-term recovery committees, led by committee leaders, he added.
He said most World Vision members are also members of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD).
