Country music stars Montgomery Gentry will perform at West Georgia Technical College’s annual Black Tie & Boots concert and dinner on Aug. 10, the school announced Wednesday.

“We are excited to have Montgomery Gentry as this year’s Black Tie & Boots headliner,” said Dawn Cook, vice president of Institutional Advancement at WGTC. “The community has come to expect this event to be an unforgettable evening and this year will not disappoint.”

The country duo will follow past performances of Blake Shelton, Josh Turner, Gary Allen and Little Big Town, who all have taken the stage for previous Black Tie & Boots concerts at the WGTC’s Murphy Campus in Waco.

Montgomery Gentry burst into the music scene in 1999 with their single “Hillbilly Shoes.” The Kentucky natives, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry, have gone on to produce 14 Top 10 singles, including five No. 1 hits, “Something To Be Proud Of,” “If You Ever Stop Loving Me,” Lucky Man,” “Back When I Knew It All” and “Roll With Me.”

Despite the millions of albums sold, the sold-out shows and the scores of awards, Montgomery Gentry said it remains in touch with its working class roots.

“We are blue collar workers and we lived the songs that we sing,” said Gentry. “Because of that, our fans are able to make the connection and when they hear our songs, they know we are singing with passion and we know what we are talking about.”

The concert includes a seated meal at 7 p.m. with the concert beginning at 8 p.m. Attendees are treated to valet parking, a professional photographer, and a walk on the red carpet. Corporate sponsorships which include concert tickets and admission to a “meet-and-greet” reception with Montgomery Gentry are available for purchase now. A limited number of individual and group tickets will go on sale July 1 at $125 per person or $950 per table.

In past years, $20,000 in student scholarships was awarded because of Black Tie & Boots and events like it.

“Black Tie & Boots is one of our premier fundraising events of the year,” said Cook. “The proceeds go toward student scholarships, program improvements, facility upgrades and faculty development.”

“The West Georgia Technical College Foundation is committed to supporting the college and its initiatives,” said WGTC President Dr. Skip Sullivan. “The support of this event helps to make a difference in the lives of our students, faculty and staff and in our communities.”
