Alexis Jordan led Mt. Zion with 15 points, while Quavadis Kirk and Toni Hammond both posted 14 points.
The Lady Eagles (13-11, 6-6) will open region tournament play on Monday.
The MZ boys suffered a 55-50 setback to the Bulldogs, getting an 11-point effort from Nathan Bernhardt, while Matt Turner scored nine and Corey Loftin finished with seven points.
In other prep basketball action from Friday:
LaGrange boys 45, Carrollton 33: The Trojans trailed by just six at halftime, but a dry spell in the third quarter allowed the Grangers to pull away in the regular-season finale.
Carrollton was outscored 14-4 in the third quarter and struggled for much of the night offensively, with Marcus Henderson leading the way with 10 points.
The Lady Trojans also dropped the regular-season finale, falling to the Lady Grangers in a 58-47 contest.
Spencer boys 70, Bremen 55: Josh Johnson posted a double-double for the Blue Devils (9-14) with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Nick Forrister added 13 points and Trent McClure finished with 10.
Prep Wrestling
The Villa Rica High School wrestling team has all six of its grapplers still alive for the second day of the Class AAAAA West Sectional after Michael Hurley, Josh Ivey, Sam Preston, Tristan Ware, Maurice McGuire and Demetris Flemister all posted 1-1 showings on Friday night in Allatoona.
The Wildcats return to the mat this morning at 8, where a win advances the wrestlers into next week’s state meet, while an opening-day loss drops them into the wrestlebacks where they can still finish as a state alternate.
Prep Swimming
Joshua Grover of the Carrollton High School swimming team qualified for the finals of the GHSA State Swimming and Diving Championships at Georgia Tech on Friday night, making it through in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly.
Prep Soccer
The Carrollton High School soccer teams won a pair of exhibition matches on Friday night at Grisham Stadium, with the boys’ team earning a 3-1 victory over Cartersville, while the girls posted a 4-0 shutout against the Lady Canes.
In the boys’ victory, Tyler Edwards, Henry Hernandez and Alejandro Vargas all scored goals, with Edwards, Kevin Sosa and Jordan Byrd getting assists.
For the Lady Trojans, Kaycee Chapman, Caroline Seeman, Sarah Bryan and Falen Kizunga all scored goals.
Carrollton officially opens its season on Tuesday at home against Northgate in 6 and 8 p.m. matches.
