It took an extra 10 minutes, and even then it was only with seconds left that the Carrollton High School girls' soccer team was able to pick up the 2-1 win against LaGrange at home on Tuesday night.

Anna Camp came through for the No. 4 Lady Trojans (7-3, 3-0 Region 5-AAAA), as her shot went in the net with just 5.2 seconds left in the second half of overtime. Lauren Dressander's throw-in bounced around the box before Camp got a foot on it and found the back of the net, sealing the win.

"It is very good. I always tell them the first five [minutes] and the last five [minutes], to play the full game out. We played the full game out [Tuesday]. They kept working, kept pounding, even after all the opportunities. It took everything except the last five seconds for us to get it in the back of the net, which was a big relief," Carrollton coach Drew Ebensberger said.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Grangers (4-6, 1-3) put the early pressure on to open the second 40 minutes, but it was Carrollton getting on the board first. Just under six minutes into the second half Emily Adams scored off a Sarah Bryan throw-in that bounced around the box before Adams smashed it into the back of the net.

With control of the game seemingly in the Lady Trojans' hands, LaGrange broke through the back three of the defense and was able to tie it up with 16:41 remaining in regulation. After playing a strong back line all night, Morgan Hufnagel, Isabel Rothschadl, Taylor Hartley and keeper Karlie Hightower were split and the game was tied. But the Carrollton defense was able to hold on and not allow another goal the rest of the way.

"They did a great job — [Rothschadl], Hartley and [Hufnagel] back there. The three of them were holding strong, Hightower in goal being able to talk to them, communicate. They did what they're supposed to be doing. We've got to continue to play that full game. One little slip and it cost us, we let LaGrange back in there. It's a mistake we're going to have to learn from. The girls didn't quit, they didn't shut down and kept them from scoring again," Ebensberger said.

The rest of the second half would remain scoreless, as well as the first five-minute overtime period and the first 4:55 of the second overtime period before Camp made the game-winning goal.

The Lady Trojans will have a quick turnaround, as they travel to Fayette County for another region contest at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. With the game less than 48 hours after Tuesday night's win, there isn't much time to prepare.

"We're just going to rest and get our legs back [from] going into the overtime. Ice, stretch, get our touches. It was a good practice game [Tuesday], so we're going to take it easy and get ourselves back together, get this game out of our head and get ready," Ebensberger said.
