Mrs. Joan Harkey Griffin, age 78, of Carrollton passed away on Friday, September 14, 2012. She was born December 31, 1933, in Great Falls, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Columbus Morrison Harkey and Kathleen Long Harkey Orr.

Mrs. Griffin attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Charlotte, North Carolina, was a homemaker for several years and later retired from Bellsouth, where she was chosen as one of ten top achievers in the Atlanta area. She was a member of the Carrollton Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Kathleen Griffin; a brother, Horace Jenkins Harkey; and a great-granddaughter, Jenna Prather.

Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Prather of Carrollton, and a son, Mark Griffin of Carrollton; granddaughter, Emily Kathleen Prather; grandson, Jordan Preston Griffin; nieces, Adrienne Griffin, Monya Barnes, Beth Griffin, and Mary Gayle Griffin.

Memorial services will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012, from the Carrollton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jan Tolbert officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carrollton Presbyterian Church, 124 Maple St., Carrollton, GA 30117.
