Mr. William Jackson “Jack” Long, 88, of Whitesburg, Ga., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2013.

Mr. Long was born in St. Clair County, Ala., on March 14, 1924, the son of the late Mack T. Long and Darkus Wilbanks Long.

He retired from Ford Motor Company, but his true passion was sawmilling and pulp wooding. He enjoyed the outdoors, splitting firewood and riding his tractor. Jack was a member of the Roopville Masonic Lodge and Antioch Baptist Church in Whitesburg.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Thelene Fagan of Stevensville, Texas, Stanley and Brenda Long of Whitesburg, Barry and Juanita Long of Whitesburg and Angela and Scott Heath of Bowdon; daughter-in-law, Ruby Long of Albany, Ga.; grandchildren and their spouses, Shana Fuchs, Shane and Penny Long, Lindsay and Jamie Godbee, Mindi and Roy Pate, Jay and Amy Denney, BJ and Lindsey Long, Ty and Lauren Lyle, Ryanne Heath and Caitlyn Heath; numerous great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Florence Long of Carrollton; sisters, Bonnie Ruth Gould of Jamestown, Tenn., and Jessie Lee Snell of Huntsville, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death his wife, Faith Irene Handley Long; son, Rocky Allen Long; and several brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Revs. Alvin Hunnicutt and Cobb Hallmark officiating. Music will be by Judy Hunnicutt.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Vaughn, Danny Pate, Dempsey Long, Steve Campbell, Kevin Boatright and Ken Yearta. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Carnes, Buster Arrington, Thomas Boyd, Wyndel Carnes and John Groce.

Interment will be in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
