The Haralson County Chamber of Commerce is holding its fourth quarter fundraiser, giving hunters and others a chance to put their skills to the test for the first annual Turkey Shoot this Saturday, Nov. 7, at the West Georgia Youth Range on Landfill Road in Waco.
Coopers Sporting Goods, based in Bremen, is the presenting sponsor among several sponsors of the event that is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chamber President Jenny English says ammunition will be provided by for free, but participants must bring their own firearms to take part in the various rounds available in the shoot.
Participants can bring a 12- or 20-gauge shotgun to use during the turkey round, which costs $5 per round. The ham round will also be available for a price of $8, which must be paid on site. Meanwhile, people can visit the Chamber’s site in Waco before Saturday to buy tickets for the rifle raffle, in which the winner will receive a Stevens .30-06 rifle. The winner will be announced following the drawing of the winning ticket at the end of the event.
English noted the winner has to collect their prize at the Coopers Sporting Goods, following a rifle background check on the recipient.
In addition, she noted great support from sponsors and Chamber board members who put hard work into the event, which she says was a brilliant idea since Haralson County harbors so many gaming, hunting and rifle enthusiasts.
“We’ve had a great response so far. This event is important because the Chamber is a nonprofit organization, so in order to provide opportunities (in the community), the Chamber relies on trustees and members and money to support teams in addition to everything we do in the community,” English said.
Participants must be 18 years old to purchase a raffle ticket, while the same age limit applies to participants in the turkey and ham shoots. However, participants under 18 years old must be supervised by a legal guardian, and those without one must present a valid hunting safety card.
