Douglas County residents will have a chance to get free H1N1 (swine) flu shots Saturday.
Cobb and Douglas Public Health will hold a mass public clinic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lithia Springs High School, 2520 East County Line Road, Lithia Springs.
“Signs will be posted to direct people to the proper location at the school,” said Darlene Foote, spokesperson for Cobb and Douglas Public Health.
Foote said her agency has recently received 30,000 doses of the vaccine. In addition to the public clinic, the vaccine is available at public health offices, including Douglas County Public Health on Stelman Drive, Douglasville.
The vaccine is limited to certain eligible individuals including:
• pregnant women;
• people who live with or care for infants, six months or younger;
• healthcare and emergency medical services personnel;
• anyone 6 months through 24 year olds;
• people 25 through 64 with health conditions associated with higher risk of flu complications, ic including:
• heart disease;
• chronic lung disease, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);
• cancer;
• kidney or liver disease;
• diabetes;
• blood disorders, such as sickle cell disease;
• weakened immune system, including AIDS or those receiving chemotherapy;
• neuromuscular disease, including muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis;
• and neurological disorders, including nervous system, brain or spinal cord problems.
