Franklin Roosevelt “Frank” Tanksley, 80, of Temple, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in Carrollton Nursing and Rehab, Carrollton.

He was born in Cullman, Ala., on Aug. 7, 1932, the son of the late Henry Zadoc Tanksley and the late Mollie Mabelle Higgins Tanksley. He was a self-employed residential and commercial contractor for more than 25 years before his retirement. He had lived in this area since 1976, when he moved here from Lithia Springs. He was a Baptist by faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Estell Tanksley; two brothers, Harlan Tanksley and Marvin Tanksley; and two sisters, Mabel Smith and Helen England.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Hopla of Florence, S.C., and Theresa Godwin of Temple; one son, Danny Tanksley of Temple; four sisters, Jewell Armstrong, Daisy Yates, Mary Gay and Eva Harvelle, all of Alabama; one brother, Herschel Tanksley of Indiana; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with Brother Barry Goldin officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Douglasville. Pallbearers will be Joshua Peek, Alex Smith, Dan Hopla, Matthew New, Michael Poss and Michael Pullen.
