The Douglas County High School football team, in partnership with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is sponsoring a benefit concert tonight for The Pantry, a local food ministry.
The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium, featuring Krayv, a local band, as the headline artist.
Promoters are asking attendees to bring non-perishable food items or a $5 donation for admission. A free-will offering will also be taken to help the food drive.
“This year, due to the state of the economy and recent flooding, The Pantry has seen the need grow to twice that of a normal week,” said Frank Smith, Pantry director.
Smith said during the past Saturday, The Pantry provided 280 families, or about 800 people, with groceries.
“As we approach the holidays, we’ve set a goal to give 1,000 families a holiday basket and that goal can be reached only with the help of the community,” he said. “Coach (John) Oglesby and the entire football team is to be commended for their desire to reach beyond themselves to touch the lives of the hungry in community.”
More information on the concert and The Pantry is available by calling 770-217-0729.
