Douglas County Fire Department will soon have a new $367,552 air and light truck, thanks to proceeds from the 2002 SPLOST (special purposed local option sales tax).
The county’s purchasing department recently approved the low bid from Pierce/Ten 8 Fire and Safety of Georgia over three other bidders.
The Board of Commissioners (BOC) is expected to approve the bid at its 7 p.m. regular BOC meeting in Citizens Hall at the county courthouse. Today’s meeting is one of only three night BOC meetings held this year, with the other two on March 17 and June 16.
“This truck has an onboard compressor to fill air bottles,” said Fire Chief Scott Spencer. “It can be brought right to the scene and will allow us to rotate firemen in and out more quickly. Currently, we have to take the air bottles back to a central location to refill them.”
Spencer said the light apparatus on the truck, which consists of six 500-watt bulbs, will allow the illumination of fire and accident scenes.
Other items on today’s BOC agenda include:
• resolution to declare the results of the Nov. 3 election;
• preliminary plat approval for Foxhall Resort and Sporting Club, Unit 1, for 49 lots on 61.03 acres on Capps Ferry Road;
• property tax credit of $61,892.51 for Viking Supply Networks due to county clerical error;
• employment agreement with Richard Hagan as a senior services director;
• upgrade of victim witness coordinator position to director of victim services, with a $1,581 transfer of funds;
• acceptance of funds from sheriff’s asset forfeiture fund of $7,917 for purchase and engineering of computer hardware and programming to connect the sheriff’s office with the prosecutor dialogue database;
• adoption of the community sports manual for the parks and recreation department;
• selection of Beck Disaster Recovery to prepare and develop a multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan for Douglas County EMA, at a bid of $29,903;
• and ratification of three purchase orders under the emergency spending provisions approved Oct. 1 by the BOC for flood repairs; includes R. J. Haynie for repairs to West Banks Mill Road, $142,295.44; Blount Construction Company, Inc. for repairs to West Union Hill Road, $105,261.55; and Lewallen for repairs to Skyview Drive, $73,135.46.
