Monday is the final day to file claims for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) assistance for damage suffered in the Sept. 20-23 flooding in Douglas County.

Once the Monday deadline is passed, no more applications will be accepted, FEMA officials have emphasized.

“You must register with FEMA to receive assistance,” Commission Chairman Tom Worthan said at the Tuesday Board of Commissioners meeting. “Assistance is available, but it’s not automatic. Registering with other aid groups is fine but that doesn’t register you with FEMA.”

Applications may be made by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by going online to the FEMA Internet

site at www.fema.gov.

The 17 Georgia counties included in the federal disaster declaration include Bartow, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Heard, Newton, Paulding, Rockdale, Stephens and Walker.
