Emily Gordon McPherson passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Cottage Landing Assisted Living in Carrollton, following a long battle with COPD.

Emily was born in Austell, Ga., on July 4, 1928, daughter of the late Luther Harrison Gordon Sr. and Ruby Griggs Gordon.

In 1947 she moved to Bremen. She worked as a nurse at the Bremen Medical Clinic for several years and also worked at the Warren P. Sewell Memorial Library in Bremen for approximately 20 years. She was involved in the founding and work of Haralson County Ministries. Emily was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bremen. She was a member of the Stella Walker Matrons Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Lewis McPherson; brother, L.H. Gordon Jr. and three sisters, Irene Gordon Williams, Doris Gordon Bridges and Louise Gordon Burnett.

Survivors include her children, Kay McPherson of Atlanta and Dan and Jan McPherson of Carrollton; grandchildren, Rebekah and Charlie Griffis of Perry, Ga., and Jim and Beth McPherson of Carrollton; great-grandchildren, Wilson, Martha and Margaret Griffis of Perry, Ga.

The family will receive friends between noon and 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, in the chapel at First United Methodist Church of Bremen.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dan McPherson and Keith Moore officiating. Music will be provided by Martha Greer and congregational singing led by Troy Walburn.

Inurnment will follow in Bremen City Cemetery.
