Only three Douglas County voters had cast early ballots by noon Thursday, an average of about one per day, for the Dec. 1 runoff election.

The two runoff contests include the 35th District Georgia State Senate race between Donzella James and Torrey O. Johnson, both Democrats. Only 11 Douglas County precincts are included in this district. The winner of the race will fill out the unexpired term of Kasim Reed (D-Atlanta) who resigned to run for mayor of Atlanta.

The other runoff race is for Villa Rica voters only who live in the Mirror Lake precinct and vote in Villa Rica City Council, Ward 4. The contest is between incumbent council member Joey Kelley and challenger Patrick Hendrickson.

Early voting will continue at the courthouse every weekday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the voter registration office on the first floor. Next Wednesday will be the last day for casting an early ballot. The courthouse will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday. No early voting will be held on Nov. 30, the day before the runoff election.

“Voters who were qualified to vote in the Nov. 3 election can vote in the runoff, regardless of whether they voted Nov. 3,” said Laurie Fulton, election supervisor.

The 11 precincts involved in the 35th Senate District vote include Annette Winn, Beulah, Boundary Waters, Golden Methodist, Colonial Hills, Old Courthouse, Deer Lick Park, Factory Shoals Middle, Lithia Springs High, Stewart Middle and Turner Middle.
