Buford R. Capes

Buford Raymond Capes of Bremen, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, in a local hospital. He was born in Carroll County, June 4, 1922, son of the late Henry Walter Capes and Viola Suddeth Capes.

Mr. Capes was a retired insurance salesman, having worked for Globe Life Insurance Company and United American Insurance Company. He was a member of the Bremen First Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Oscar Capes, Leon Capes, Sonny Capes and Harvey Capes; sisters, Mary McCormick and Nellie Jiles.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Cantrell Capes of Bremen; a son, Randy Capes of Bremen; a sister, Elsie Hardegree of Carrollton; granddaughters and spouse, Lindsey and Scott Varnado of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Maycie Capes of Knoxville, Tenn.; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Brother Herman Parker and Mr. Scott Varnado officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Nicholas Cox Jr.

Mr. Nicholas L. Cox Jr., 73, of Buchanan passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012. Mr. Cox was born in Griffin on Nov. 14, 1938. He was the son of the late Nicholas L. Cox Sr. and the late Nellie McCullough Cox.

Mr. Cox was a retired school teacher, having retired from the Douglas County Schools and was a longtime Sunday School teacher at Tallapoosa East Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Payton Cox of Buchanan; niece, Rebecca Harris; nephew, Phillip Payton; great-nieces, Emily Harris, Anna Harris and Lexi Payton; great-nephews, Skylar Payton, Caleb Payton, Evan Harris and Matthew Harris; special nephews, John Crossley and Andrew Crossley; and other family members, Ray and Linda Crossley and Michael Harris.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, from Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Holmes officiating. Music was furnished by the Rev. W.A. Ivie. Entombment followed in the Forest Lawn Mausoleum with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Phillip Payton, Ray Crossley, John Crossley, Michael Harris, Evan Harris, Caleb Payton, Skylar Payton and Andrew Crossley.

Tony Davison

Mr. Tony Davison, 52, of Carrollton, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012. He was born Aug. 23, 1960, in Villa Rica, Ga., the son of Joyce Sorrells and Robert Davison.

Tony enjoyed a 30-year career in Fire Service the first 26 with the Carroll County Fire Dept. where he attained the rank of Captain. His last four years were spent with the Haralson County Fire Dept. In 1992 he was certified as a Georgia Smoke Diver and was given the number of 526.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Davison; father and step-mother, Robert and Jane Davison of Temple, Ga.; mother and step-father, Joyce and Will Sorrells of Tallapoosa, Ga.; children, Jennifer Davison and Josh Davison, both of Carrollton; brother and family, Wes, Terri and Austin Davison and Anna Denard of Temple, Ga.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Burt and Emma Stevens of Temple, Ga.; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Darrell and Becky Stevens of Temple and Faith Smith of Bremen.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Midway Church with Mr. Darrell Stevens, Chief Brian Walker, Mr. Gary Thomas and Mr. Nick Neely officiating. Pallbearers were Keith Sudduth, Joe Horsley, Nick Neely, Tad Richardson, Darren Edwards, Michael Hopson, Tommy Hopson and Jessie Piepmeier.

In accordance with his wishes the body was cremated following the service.

Juanita Ezell

Juanita Nix Ezell, 96, of Rome, Ga., formerly of Buchanan died Oct. 6, 2012.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Calvin Brown, Eddie Hughes and Billy Swift officiating. Burial followed at the Tallapoosa East Cemetery. Mary Katherine Harrison, 47, of Temple died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.

Funeral services were conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Antony Puckett officiating. Burial followed in Bremen City Cemetery.

John Kirby Sr.

John W. Kirby Sr., 69, of Temple died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Jeff Byrd and Larry Argo officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mary F. Winkles Stembridge, 90, of Carrollton formerly of Bremen died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at her residence.

Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Minister Bob Gray officiating.

Wilton Robertson

Mr. Wilton N. Robertson, 79, of Bremen, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at his residence

Mr. Robertson was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Percy Robertson and Lillian Leyland Robertson Thomas. He worked most of his life in The Drywall Industry and was a veteran having served in the U. S. Navy.

Survivors include his children, Lillian and the Rev. Chad Long of Bremen, Kathrine and Gary Lemley of Rockmart, Clyde Wayne and Gina Kimbrell of Cumming, Clarence Lee and Melissa Davis of Hiram; eight grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Louise Barrentine Robertson.

In accordance with his wishes, the body was cremated. The family will hold a private service at a later date.
