Mr. David Ray Melvin, 77, of Villa Rica, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. He was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Jefferson County, Ala., the son of the late Mr. James Madison Melvin and the late Mrs. Etta Leona Lee Melvin. He served in the U. S. Air Force. He later retired from Eastern Airlines after many years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edwin Keith Melvin; granddaughter, Tarralyn Gwen Melvin; brother, Charles Melvin and sisters, Ruby Coe and Melba Nichols.

He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Calloway Melvin of Villa Rica; daughter and son-in-law, Deeanna and Patrick Brown of Carrollton; son, Danny Roy Melvin of Temple; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Howard Hoggle of Woodstock, Ala.; five grandchildren, Kristin Melvin of Cedartown, David Melvin of Villa Rica, Haley Melvin of Temple, Amy Brown of Carrollton, and Jennifer Brown of Loganville; seven great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.jones-wynn.com.
