A child support dispute that occurred in Buchanan last Friday evening has left one man dead and another critically injured.

Haralson County Sheriff Eddie Mixon said 33-year-old Tony Watkins died from a single gunshot wound he allegedly incurred from his wife’s ex-husband during an argument over a child support payment. Mixon said the couple, who are residents of Bremen, arrived at 33-year-old Shane Brown’s mobile home located on 202 Old Corinth Rd. to collect a child support payment when things turned deadly.

“While it’s early in the investigation, it appears that Mr. Brown went to his bedroom and emerged with a shot gun. It appears Brown then shot Mr. Watkins, fatally inquiring him. Mr. Brown then began beating [Denise] Watkins,” reported Mixon.

Mixon said it is believed that Brown also turned the gun on himself at the scene. As a result, he suffered massive trauma to his jaw and was life-flighted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. He is currently in critical condition.

Watkins was treated at Higgins Hospital in Bremen for injuries she suffered to her head and face, according to police.

Mixon said the GBI Crime lab is assisting with the investigation and charges are pending the outcome of the forensic report.

Family members of the deceased were grieving for their lost loved one this week. Marsha Pavlovsky, sister of Tony Watkins, says the world has lost a good man.

“My brother was a very good family man, he was honest, he was hard-working,” she said. “There wasn’t a violent bone in his body. My brother lost his life for $56.”

Mixon asks the community to solicit prayers for the people involved in this case, especially the two children that are shared by Watkins and Brown.

It is a sad day when a man loses his life trying to get a father to stand up to his duties. Fifty six dollars is not alot of money. I am owed 5000 in child support. The moral of this story is that there are men who are men, and those who are cowards. The coward that shot this man probably tried to kill himself because he knew what a piece of crap he is and he killed a MAN for calling him out on it. I hope he lives so he can spend the rest of his life behind bars getting what he deserves from inmates bigger than him!

Honeatly! Do you two think this is the place to be doing this arguing? He was my family and this childish arguing hasa no place here. Our family doesn't need to see that! Tony, was a great man. We all miss him and we will continue to love him forever. No one can take that away from us. Wish you were here in body the way you are in spirit.

Well courage, check your own post... how do you lay "of" someone? People make mistakes, get over it..everyone is human and that's what we do.

While this is a horrible incident that happened, I have to take exception with the Times-Georgian editorial staff. How do you fatally inquire someone? Do you even have editors there or have you laid those of too?
