The Villa Rica High School football team will take its two-game win streak to Acworth for a 7:30 p.m. meeting with Allatoona tonight.

The three Wildcat wins this season have come in the past four weeks, with the loss coming against the fourth-ranked team in the state — East Paulding. They will have their work cut out for them again on the road against the No. 8 Buccaneers tonight.

Led by a twin attack in the backfield, Allatoona (6-0, 6-0 Region 5-AAAAA) has worked through its first six games of the year with relative ease. The closest game for the Buccaneers was a 28-14 win against South Paulding. Overall, Allatoona averages 37.3 points on the year, while allowing just 11.8 and have yet to have more than 20 points scored against them.

T.J. Herron leads the way for Allatoona with 96.7 yards per game, while Joshua Bautista adds another 80.5 per contest on the ground.

For the Wildcats (3-3, 3-3), it’s been Jaylen Cox and quarterback Kevin Martin that have gotten things going offensively the past two weeks. Through the first four games of the year, the VR offense scored just 37 points and were shut out once. In the back-to-back wins, it has scored 71 points, including a 50-point effort against Woodland, Cartersville.

Tonight’s game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Second-year Villa Rica coach Mike Falleur could not be reached for comment as of press time Thursday evening.
