Carrollton runners show well in Battle for Atlanta

The Carrollton High School cross country teams had a strong showing at the Battle of Atlanta at Nash Farms Battlefield on Saturday morning.

The boys team continues to show its strength as in the fourth race of the season the Trojans had their fourth different team leader. On Saturday it was Eli Payne taking the top Carrollton spot at 18 minutes and 25 seconds, just half a second ahead of teammate Blake Hamil.

Michael Crowder came in at 18:36, just one second ahead of teammate Cassidy Emory. Will Gordy (18:44), Anthony Martinez (19:00) and Nathan Trippe (19:12) rounded out the top seven runners.

As a team the Carrollton boys finished in 12th out of 25 teams.

On the girls side Emily Adams regained her spot on top of the Lady Trojan finishers as she finished the 5K race in 22 minutes and 12 seconds. Zavannah Brown (22:43) followed Adams as the two Carrollton runners to finish in under 23 minutes.

Krystal Ruiz (23:02), Madison Wright (24:22), Haley Webb (25:33), Nicole Wilson (25:37) and Ashley Adams (25:56) rounded out the Carrollton runners.

The junior-varsity boys team also had a strong showing as Spencer Campbell medaled with a 19th place finish in a time of 19 minutes and 43 seconds. As a team they placed ninth out of 20 squads. The Lady Trojans JV placed 11th.

Up next the Carrollton squads will travel to Florida for the 17th Annual Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Oct. 5.
