Mr. Buren E. “Buddy” Lanier, of Bowdon, Ga., passed away on Dec. 26, 2012. He was 72.

Mr. Lanier was born Sept. 25, 1940, to Daisy Wiggins Lanier and the late Curtis R. Lanier.

He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, which he joined at an early age, and graduated from Bowdon High School in 1958. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War and was called back to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. During the 1970s, Mr. Lanier was very active in veteran’s affairs and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 139 and the AmVets Post No. 20. He was a state officer for the AmVets and received numerous awards.

Mr. Lanier worked as the manager at Hallmark Finance in Bowdon and later became a certified electrician and worked in the construction field. He always enjoyed gardening and flowers and attended floral arranging courses and created beautiful arrangements. In addition to gardening, Mr. Lanier enjoyed fishing, but he most loved his family and will be remembered as a loving son, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his mother, Daisy Lanier; his brother, Billy Lanier; his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Terry Cosper; his nieces, Cindy Brown and Hope Bailey; his great-nephews, Josh, Nic and Jeffrey Brown and Brady Bailey; his great-niece, Brylee Bailey; and his former wife, Sonja South.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Lanier’s body was cremated.
