Loy Bryant Hembree, 81, of Villa Rica, died Saturday, August 14, 2010, in Tanner Medical Center, Villa Rica.

He was born in the Flat Rock community, Douglas County, on April 10, 1929, the son of the late Loy Rhyne Hembree and the late Mable Clara Wallace Hembree. He lived his entire lifetime in the Douglas and Carroll County area.

He worked in management for Lockheed Aircraft for 17 years and then left that position to begin a career in the poultry business. He was owner and operator of a logging business and Hembree Pullett Express until his retirement a few years ago. He served as a deputy sheriff in Douglas County under Sheriff Claude A. Abercrombie and Sheriff Earl Lee, was a member of the Douglasville Masonic Lodge where he served as worshipful master and was a Master Mason for more than 50 years. He was a member of Powell Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Camp Hembree, on April 26, 2010.

Survivors include three daughters, Dianne Carson Gable and her husband, John, of Villa Rica, Deborah Owens and her husband, Dennis, of Forest Park, and Renea Waddell and her husband, Kenneth, of Temple; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Eloys Hembree of Lithia Springs, Berwyn and Shirley Hembree of Villa Rica and Mac and Melanie Hembree of Villa Rica; one sister, Melba H. Thomas of Villa Rica; seven grandchildren, Dara Carson and Wesley Carson, both of Villa Rica, Kara Owens and Marla Owens of Forest Park, Christopher Waddell, Jason Waddell of Temple and Brittany W. Tullis of Villa Rica; eight great-grandchildren, Jack Winn of Brazil, Indiana, Mason Waddell, Mattie Waddell and Ansley Waddell, all of Temple, Presley Tullis and Anna Lois Tullis of Villa Rica, Omar Maslik Baker and Colin Bryant Henry of Forest Park; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 16, 2010, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Neal Williams officiating. Music was provided by Ben Pilgreen. Pallbearers were Larry Darby, Lee Armstrong, Greg Bell, Trent Thomas, Tracy Blackburn, Alan Hembree, Jerry Womack and Richard Anderson. Interment followed in Melrose Hills Memorial Gardens in Paulding County.
