The Carrollton Bluefins will host their 24th Annual Fall Classic this weekend at Lakeshore Natatorium, where 17 teams and 586 swimmers will converge for a total of 3,490 individual entries.
Chattahoochee Gold, the largest team participating, is bringing 122 swimmers, while teams are coming from as far away as Dalton, Albany and Warner Robins.
Action begins with the distance session at 6 p.m. Friday and continues Saturday, when the 10-and-under swimmers compete from 8:30 a.m. to noon and those 11 and older compete from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday will run on the same schedule as Saturday.
The teams will not keep score at the event, though swimmers’ times will count toward IMX national database points.
It will be the biggest meet the team has hosted since the Georgia Recreation and Park Association state championship in July.
“We expect a really big crowd at Lakeshore,” Bluefin coach David Weeks said.
He said the parents and recreation department have done a good job of preparing for and supporting the meet.
The Bluefins will be collecting toys from each swimmer to support the VFW’s “Tunes for Tots” concerts that are a part of Toys for Tots.
The team already has several state qualifiers in senior events: Evan Harte, Jacob Smith, Joshua Grover, Carolyn Ives and Ty Montemoino. Their senior state meet is Dec. 11-13 at Georgia Tech.
The Bluefins also have some swimmers who are already age group qualifiers: Cameron Back (13-14 boys), Asher van Zanten (11-12 boys), Makenzie Buck (9-10 girls), Andrew Shiver (9-10 boys), Donald Sener (9-10 boys), Harper Minor (9-10 girls) and Cade Crews (9-10 boys).
“We’ll be hoping to add some more to that list after this meet,” Weeks said.
