In the boys game, New Manchester jumped out to a 14-9 lead after the first period and led 33-24 at halftime. The defense stepped up in the second half, holding North Paulding to just seven points in both the third and fourth periods. The Jags scored 14 and 15 for the win.
Ryan Edwards led New Manchester with 21 points.
“He was real aggressive,” said head coach David Cottrell. “He got in deep a few times and was also able to step out and hit a three.”
Joe Boyer followed Edwards with 18 points. Nashon Dortch added eight.
“We played hard, and played pretty good team defense,” Cottrell said. “We still need to clean some things up on the offensive end. Our ball movement has to improve.”
Score by periods was not available for the girls game.
Senior captain Alyssa Harris led the Lady Jags with 12 points. She also had double digits in rebounds.
“She played a great game and dominated the backboard,” said head coach Josh Martin. “Most of her points came on offensive rebounds.”
Deesha Brefford followed Harris with eight points. Ashley Germany netted seven.
New Manchester will be back in action on Friday when they host Woodland at 6 p.m. They boys will follow at 7:30 p.m.
