Sen. Bill Hamrick was first elected to the Georgia Senate from the 30th District in 2000.  A 

Republican, Sen. Hamrick represents the citizens of Carroll, Douglas, and Paulding 

Counties.  In the Senate, Sen. Hamrick is currently Chairman of the Banking and Financial 

Institutions Committee, Chairman of the Criminal Justice Subcommittee on 

Appropriations and serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee. He also 

serves on the Appropriations and Judiciary committees. 

 

Born and raised in Carrollton, Sen. Hamrick attended school in the Carrollton City School System and 

graduated from Carrollton High School. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from 

Auburn University, and in 1992 he graduated with a Law Degree from Georgia State University College 

of Law. Today, Senator Hamrick practices law in Carrollton.   

 

Currently, Sen. Hamrick chairs the Senate Study Committee to rewrite the Juvenile Justice Code, and he 

serves on the Financial Services, Law and Criminal Justice and Communications, Technology and 

Interstate Commerce Committees for the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL).  In 2003, 

Sen. Hamrick co-chaired the HOPE Scholarship Joint Study Commission to review the HOPE 

Scholarship and keep it viable for future generations.  

 

In his short time as a State Senator, Sen. Hamrick has had many legislative accomplishments and has 

moved into a leadership position within the majority party of the Georgia Senate. An early legislative 

accomplishment was the Corruption Prevention Act, which makes the prosecution of political corruption 

in Georgia easier. He has passed legislation that promotes the savings of tax dollars through an increase in 

personal and business property exempt from ad valorem taxes. In addition, Sen. Hamrick has passed 

legislation that facilitates information sharing between State and Federal authorities, including 

information regarding terrorist activities.  



Sen. Hamrick is happily married to Susan Johnston Hamrick and very active in the Carroll

County community having been involved with the Carroll County 

Chamber of Commerce Leadership Carroll program. He is an active member of the Carrollton First 

United Methodist Church, serves as a member of their Long Range Planning Committee, and has 

completed the Disciple Program, a four-year in-depth study of the Bible.  A sports enthusiast, Sen. 

Hamrick has twice completed the Triathlon held at Lakeshore Park in Carroll County.
